Bruce and Aidan Lundie – uncle and nephew respectively – developed 105 hectares of the 176 hectare farm to dairying, from grazing, in 2016.
The goal, to milk 360 cows, saw them focus on a herringbone which had to be a “good one person shed where one person could comfortably milk the herd for the bulk of the season with, possibly, a bit of additional help during spring,” Aidan said.
After visiting a number of herringbones to see “what worked, and what didn’t” they decided on a 30 aside Supa4 with the capacity (system and pit) to extend to 40 sets of cups in the future.
Aidan says the 320 claws are light and easy to handle with good cup alignment.
“I’d never used automated cup removers before but wouldn’t be without them now; they ease and speed up the milking process making it easy to milk on my own.”
“We’re very happy with the new dairy – it’s simple, efficient and streamlined - anyone could milk in it”.
